In "promiscuous pairing", each programmer communicates and works with all the other programmers on the team rather than pairing only with one partner, which causes knowledge of the system to spread throughout the whole team.

Knowledge is constantly shared between pair programmers, whether in the industry or in a classroom, many sources suggest that students show higher confidence when programming in pairs, and many learn whether it be from tips on programming language rules to overall design skill.

group is an agile software development company and one of the technique we use during our development workflow is pair programming: two developers work at the same feature on the same workstation.Īs reported on Wikipedia, one of the the main advantages of pair programming is knowledge sharing:

When I started to work at group my knowledge of the Android platform was very limited. IDE, Integrated Development Environment, are the software developer toolboxes.

well that's how I feel about Visual Studio most of the time, so again it probably just comes down to time spent learning to be familiar with how a tool works. In this posts I will compare the coding speed that it is possible to achieve with Android Studio, Xcode, and some JetBrains IDEs in terms of code creation and refactoring.

You can select from multiple Xcode editor color schemes, one of the others might make more sense to you.Īs for being unusable. In particular debugging of things is where I feel like Xcode is way ahead of Visual Studio, especially if you look into customization of LLDB but even the defaults are pretty good. One thing I do is set up Xcode Behaviors so that debugging start opens up a specific debugging tab, so I can leave the debugger console window open there and not have to close it in coding windows. Same for file tab opening multiple times, I'm not quite sure what you mean by this one.įor debugging it should open a file related to any stopped breakpoint. I also find it strange that auto-complete is slow for you, even on large projects that has usually worked pretty quickly for me. I would suggest looking up Xcode keyboard shortcuts which might help mitigate some of the issues you are having:įor windowing, look at Open Quickly, or Shift-Alt-Click in project nav that asks you where you want a file open (slide to side to open in secondary editor).Ĭhanging code stuff usually has things appear right away for me, perhaps you have errors somewhere in the project that is breaking that? Same for intelligence picking up on new things, maybe just hit build if it does not. over the past year I have used Android Studio off and on and don't really care for it much, though it's better after some configuration (like double click to change files in the project nav, what?). I guess it's what you are used to, I have been using Xcode for years and like it quite a bit. Please let me know also what do you think of it.

I downloaded JetBrains AppCode IDE for trial. There are other things that I do not like at all about Xcode. And I use the above mentioned IDEs daily and switching to Xcode and thinking of working on it is tiring. Xcode is highly unusable and works inferior when compared to these. I changed several wallpapers with multiple plain colors, disabled wallpaper tinting. The window color, active tab color and inactive tab colors are just confusing in both Dark and Light modes. When debugging, the current debugger execution flow just does not go to the opened file, rather it opens that file again in the current tab. When I change some code or add some enums, classes or constants they would not appear on other files on intellisense menus.Īuto Complete is super slow. Xcode windowing of files, splitting files etc. They are just amazing when compared to Xcode in 10s of most important things. I work on IntelliJ (Android Studio included), VS Code.

The journey has been tiring to be honest. I am sure it has little to do with the Xcode problems that I am going to mention. I am working on 16 GB RAM macOS and I believe it is decent.
